New Flight from Tijuana to Los Angeles

Tijuana´s International Airport

On June 7th, 2007 due to the increased volume of visitors from the Los Angeles area, Delta Airlines lounged the first flight Tijuana- LA.

The addition of this new route is of particular importance for Baja California as it increases the number of visitors to the region that would otherwise not make the trip due to the high price of gasoline or the long border waits. They would now have another options for travel to Baja California. Another benefit would be for “residential tourism” or for those that have invested in vacation homes, who can now make the trip conveniently from the Los Angeles area...

Recently, executives from Delta Airlines and Tourism Secretary Alejandro Moreno toured the airport facilities and discussed the logistics of the new flight operation to Tijuana’s International Airport. They also met with tourism sector representatives to coordinate efforts that would guarantee success of this new service. The Delta Airlines fifty-passenger Embraer will provide service twice daily, five days a week.

Moreno emphasized that the new service would have many more advantages than increased traffic from the Los Angeles region. It could also serve as a hub for travel to the United States as well as the rest of the world. A great numbers of visitors to Tijuana, Rosarito and Ensenada come from the Los Angeles area. In 2006 Tijuana’s International Airport recorded 50,000 air operations with over 3.7 million passengers. The new service could add another 20,000 new passengers, which would generate important revenues for the State, especially in the tourism sector..
